As President of the Meade County Area Chamber of Commerce, I have the opportunity to work with an outstanding group of dedicated members, staff, and Board of Directors. Our individual talents and experiences add strength to a wonderful organization.

This past year we continued traditions but we also made some positive changes. We evaluated our finances and looked at ways to cut cost without reducing services. We added a part-time Co-op student, Rebecca Fackler, from the Meade County High School to help with routine tasks and to also show support for business education. This will allow Vickie Skaggs, our Executive Director, to spend more time meeting your needs as members.

We also made the decision to eliminate our role in Tourism unless it relates to an actual business. This will allow a more focused approach to our purpose and save approximately $2,000 per year in funds and staff time. We also combined the Tourism and Public Relations and the Industrial Business committees into one committee and renamed it the Cooperative Relations committee. This committee will look at ways to cooperate with and support the Industrial Authority and Tourism program.

We have also made some changes to the Directory. We removed the calendar portion and have created a calendar with meeting and event dates for the upcoming year. We hope you will place it where you can be reminded each day of upcoming events, and we included pictures of Meade County to make it attractive. By removing the calendar it will reduce the total postage cost when mailing the directory to interested individuals.

As members you have spoken and as a Board we will continue to listen and do our best to make our organization stronger.

Sincerely,

Jennifer Benham
